Art for unity I

a public exhibition of palestinian culture

at haymarket, Newcastle upon Tyne on 14/12/2024

In December 2024, Zeytoun Arts Collective launched its first major exhibition, Art for Unity, in Newcastle upon Tyne. Held outside St. Thomas’ Church by Haymarket metro station, this open-air, one-day exhibition transformed the heart of the city into a space for solidarity, culture, and public dialogue around Palestine.

Bringing together over 35 artworks displayed on wooden pallet boards, the exhibition celebrated Palestinian identity with a focus on daily life, culture, and resistance in the face of occupation. It invited passers-by to engage beyond politics alone, but with the textures of heritage — from embroidered tatreez to symbols like the olive tree — offering a view of Palestine often hidden from public consciousness.
